Computing in the Workplace
I have been involved in the sales industry in one fashion or another for the past twenty plus years. In my time (since 1998) I have seen many improvements in technology in this industry from connection speeds going from slow (T1) to fast (gigabit fiber) to CRM systems steadily advancing including the advent of SalesForce. This decade is certainly ushering in more and more technology advancements in all industries including the sales industry on almost a monthly basis.
One of the main “buzzwords” in the sales industry is the “sales cycle” and the relative speed of the amount of time it takes to turn a prospect into a customer or client. Since almost the beginning of time, there has been focus on shortening the sales cycle. The advent of mobile phones and where prospective customers can be reached almost instantly 24 hours a day has certainly helped in this arena in recent years. Another strategy that has recently been developed is Chatbots. Chatbots can use artificial intelligence (AI) to look in a prospect or customers files and have an intelligent conversation with them via chat without the use (or cost) of a human representative. This is another example of continuous improvement of technology.
Another area that is transforming is the integration of systems. When companies can integrate their call and chat systems with their CRM, like SalesForce, it negates the need for human interaction of putting call notes in the CRM etc, and again helps shorten the sales cycle allowing for more sales conversions in a shorter period of time.
